Dec 22, 2023

Best Buy has kicked off a major sales event with discounts across popular tech products, aiming to capture last-minute holiday shoppers. The sale comes after weeks of ramping up promotions across Apple devices, TVs, laptops and more.

Overview of the holiday sale

The 3-day sale event runs Dec. 15-17 both online and in stores. Some of the highlights include:

  • Up to $800 off Samsung TVs
  • Select iPads for $100 off
  • Windows laptops from $199
  • Apple Watch Series 9 for $50 off
  • AirPods and headphones up to 50% off

“This is really Best Buy’s last big chance to boost holiday revenues before the final Christmas rush,” said analyst Thomas Diamond. “It’s quite typical to see these 11th-hour deals to incentivize procrastinating shoppers.”

The retailer is also promoting free next-day delivery on thousands of items to ensure orders arrive before Dec. 25. Customers can choose curbside pickup within an hour at many locations as well.

Top deals on Apple devices

The sale has delivered significant discounts on select Apple products, including the best pricing to date on the recently launched Apple Watch Series 9.

Product Normal Price Sale Price
Apple Watch Series 9 $399+ $349+
10.9″ iPad Air 5th Gen $599 $499
iPad Mini 6th Gen $499 $399
Beats Studio3 Wireless Headphones $349.99 $174.99

“We’re seeing new all-time lows on the latest Apple Watch model along with rare discounts on the iPad Air and Mini,” said Diamond. “Especially so close to Christmas, these deals are likely to go fast.”

The Apple Watch Series 9 introduced new temperature sensing and car crash detection capabilities alongside an improved battery life. Meanwhile, both iPad models feature modern thin-bezel designs with Apple’s powerful A15 Bionic chip.

Major TV discounts from top brands

In addition to mobile tech, Best Buy’s 3-day event includes steep savings on popular TV models from LG, Sony, Samsung and more. There are dozens of models reduced by hundreds of dollars, with some seeing the steepest discounts to date.

Shoppers can save over $1,000 on Samsung’s 2022 85″ Class Neo QLED premium TV, now $2,299.99 alongside massive savings on the brand’s Frame series. Other featured deals include LG’s C2 OLED TVs from $896.99 after a $300 price cut.

Outlook for post-Christmas and Boxing Day

With Christmas now just days away, the sale represents Best Buy’s final holiday sales push. Industry watchers believe the electronics giant has performed reasonably well so far amid high inflation and shaky consumer confidence.

“We’re seeing hints of a return to brick-and-mortar shopping versus the pandemic years,” said analyst Susan Lee. “In-store pickup and curbside services are making big box retail more convenient and price competitive with Amazon.”

As for what comes next, analysts predict Best Buy’s savings will continue into Boxing Day and beyond. “They need to keep driving sales even after the gifting rush of Christmas,” Lee said. “There’s lots of inventory to power more deals into early 2023 and win over shoppers redeeming gift cards.”

So while the door is closing on pre-Christmas bargains, expect the sales at Best Buy to carry forward past the holidays.
